The Eurovision Winners

The Eurovision Song Contest bowed for the first time on the evening of the 24th May 1956 when Lys Assia won for the host nation at the Teatro Kursaal (above) in Lugano, Switzerland.

Below is a list of every winner since then. The name of each country is followed by the title of the song and the name of the performer while the second line contains the all-important songwriting credits.

Oh and don't forget that in 2020, the Eurovision Song Contest planned for Rotterdam was not held due to the Covid19 pandemic, while in 1969, there was an unusual result when four countries tied for first place.

Finally, the question we get asked most frequently is - who is the most successful Eurovision participant of all time? Well, Irish singer Johnny Logan is the only person to have won it three times - twice as the performer and once more as the songwriter (for Linda Martin), so the honour definitely belongs to him. By the way, he also performed during the semi-final of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, so who's to say he won't make it four? After all, "What's Another Year"?
